Skin-on-Frame: rope coaming lip : glue question

I am planning to use a rope lip on a wood coaming rim, but am unsure if the outdoor wood glue (Lepage 'Weather Grip' Outdoor Wood Glue ,exceeds type II test for water resistance...) will work on the rope.
I will likely use a braided nylon or poly rope, 1/2" or so, which will be stitched on as well with a doubled line of dental floss, which is what was used to sew the canvas skin. The rope will also get a coating of varnish, as I have not varnished the outer top half of the rim yet (so that there is bare wood for the glue to adhere).
My question is - will this glue work, or would I be better off using the 'Marine Goop' I have? Which of these two will give the better bond between wood and the rope?
I do not want to go buy another tube of another type of glue, if at all possible.

many thanks
