My son and I are well into building his Sea Flea, number two in our family. We completed one last year for his sister, who was 11 at the time, and now Tyler, 9, is getting his own kayak.
The picture shows Tyler demonstrating how light the nearly completed frame is. We weighed it and it looks to be about 7 or 8 pounds - after a minute or so, his arms began to get a little shaky holding it up, which had the needle on the scale moving a bit!! ("It's OK dad, I CAN DO IT".)
We have added the deck stringers, (which I nearly forgot in my excitement and eagerness to get going with the skinning), and Tyler has opted to go with a foam pad instead of the wood floor we put in the first Sea Flea - I MAY have 'influenced' that decision!!
I am almost finished the sewing .... I ran out of dental floss with about 90% of the job completed, so will head over to W-Mart tomorrow.
cheers
