I have ordered plans for the Petrel and am looking forward to getting started. I plan to take a lot of time on this build, and hope it will turn out to be my best effort. (It will be my fifth kayak build; 2 CLC Chesapeaks and 2 CLC Shearwater Hybrids.) My question relates to the finish on the Petrel shown in the CLC catalog. The Petrel pictures on this site show the same boat, referred to as the Prototype Petrel. I would like to attempt a similar finish. Can anyone tell me how the boat was finished? Is the rich reddish/purplish finish due to the wood used, or was it stained?
