Brian--Western Red Cedar is an excellent strip building wood. For what it's worth, I looked into shipping Northern White Cedar to Europe a year ago and the cost for shipping a kayak's worth of wood was in the $300-$400 range, depending on the delivery options. That effectively doubled the cost of the strips.
