Good thinking - or if not, it's at least what I'd been coming up with :). Today, I ordered plans and CNC cut forms for the Hybrid Night Heron from CLC. I hope they arrive sometime soon, but they don't stock them, it has to be cut first.

I'm trying to figure out how to scarf the plywood together as I don't have 16 feet of level ground. I'm planning on putting a pair of 16' 2x4s along a pair of sawhorses to make a surface. The problem with that is there's no structure underneath the joint being glued. To get around that, I'll try putting some scrap 'one by' or thin plywood under the joint and then under a couple of other points under each piece. I hope it works...

I'm off to Home Depot (building supply store) right now to make the sawhorses and platform. I'll probably take a look at the different glues and epoxies they offer while I'm there.

: I wouldn't worry too much about the extra one or two hundred $. You can save
: that by making you own paddle and tow rope. Go for quality materials if
: you can. It seems a shame to put loving care and a lot of hours into such
: a project and skimp on the quality of the materials, especially the ply.
: Quality ply will be nicer to work with, have a longer life and is often
: more beautiful in its colour.

: Even with the best quality materials you will have a boat for under a
: thousand $ that would cost anyone else thousands, even for something like
: it in GRP, never mind wood.

: If you really want to come out ahead, get a licence from the designer to
: build two (nick in this case), Use the same forms on both, and sell the
: second one for a pot of money. Or build three even and let the third pay
: for your two. You will need two. One for friends.
