I am actually embarrassed to say that I have yet to launch the Merg 17. I completed everything accept back brace and seat. After that she is ready to launch. I finished the boat about 2yr ago and got busy with life and bought a street bike so kinda have put it off. The Canoe gets the most use but the Chessy has been just about everywhere in this area. I love the Chessy in the water and soon as I get a chance to launch the Merg I'll post back on my opinions on this.

I can make a educated guess that the Merg will be more agile. The Merg is smaller and fits tighter for the pilot from what I can tell. Its my second build so I also learned a whole lot so the boat is lighter and I am sure stronger than the Chessy.

The Merg is layed up with 4oz cloth on the entire outside and 4oz on the entire inside w/a little more around the cockpit area. I kept the weight down by not completely filling the weave on the inside areas and did not use the 9oz tape accept where the deck meets the hull. If I remember I think I had to purchase extra 4oz to do all this but she is very strong and very light. About 44 pounds.
