Epoxy: Mixing brands

To all more knowledgeable than I (which is everyone here):

Has anyone ever used the resin from one company (in this case, System 3 SilverTip) with the hardener of another (say, West System 205 Fast) and gotten a successful cure? I poured what I had left of some SilverTip into a West System 205 container (empty) with a West pump on it and mixed it with West 205 Fast Hardener with a West pump, and got a full cure the first time but not the 2nd. I'm laminating a coaming rim with 1/8" x 3/8" x 76" strips as per Nick's book, and the first strip bonded to the coaming riser made out of strips that was glassed with the deck, but the 2nd strip that we applied did not. Epoxy issue or mix problem, or user or all of the above?

Thanks in advance for all possible suggestions!
