One of the advantages of building your own boat is you can change things to fit you. Specially the deck, since it really doesn't change the underwater profile doesn't really matter what shape it is, as long as it stays out of your way while paddling. I've got both and once paddling can't really tell any difference, but these are very low volume boats, might be different with a large volume boat like the Auk.
