Strip: Cheap Red Cedar with no knots Yes!

My wife dragged me to a business in Rochester that recycles material from old houses. Their market is people who want vintage door knobs and windows, etc.

As of late I've been looking for clear cedar boards for my kayak building project, but have not found any. The boards I find are full of knots, and expensive.

At this recycling store I found eight perfectly clear six foot boards that were assembled in as a box, perhaps to be placed around pipes in a house (a guess) to hide them. They are tongue and groove and because of the way they are held together I get a 3/4 by 4 1/2 by 6 foot board from each, but the cost was only ten dollars.

The joys of a junk yard.

Three of the eight are flat sawed.

What difficulties will I have dealing with quarter sawed boards 3/4" thick?
