: I am building a 16 foot guillemot 20" wide. I figured there is just
: under 100sq. ft. total on the boat. Now i am ready to start glassing but
: want to make sure i have enough glass and epoxy. thanks for the help.

Adam,

Just put together a 16' and a 17' Guillemot w/ a single layer of 6 oz. glass inside and out, w/ a couple small doubled-up areas (stems, cockpit, etc.) I used MAS epoxy, and just cracked open my third gallon of resin this morning for my seam tapes (umm, some fun now! (sarcastically)). I'll do a couple light finish coats and general touch ups, but I don't anticipate this taking much to do. I've not wasted (mixed more than I could use at the time) too much, but I've not been too stingy about how much I've applied to the boats, either. If and when I do this again, I'd make sure I had 1.25 gal of resin and .75 gal of hardener on hand per boat. MAS is 2:1 mix ratio, so adjust accordingly to your epoxy. If I were shooting for lightness and more confident with my (and the epoxy's) abilities, might have squeeked by with 1.0/0.5 gal, but I'm not there (yet).

I ordered 45 yds of 60" cloth. Didn't want to run out, and figured I'd always come up w/ a project for the left-overs. Haven't measured the remains, but I've loads of fabric left. The 60" width allows for covering the hull/deck somewhat diagonally, allowing for very little waste. My best guess is my 16'er used only 15 yds of fabric. Think I remember reading somewhere (maybe Nick's book?) to plan on 3 x the boat's length for 50" fabric. I'd say that's what mine worked out to, too.
