Skin-on-Frame: dimmensions

I've been debating asking this here. I can already hear some of the responses . But..ok here goes: What do the experts think about modifying the dimmensions of a replica of a historical kayak to better suit the owner's size? The boat I'm thinking of, from what I've been told, is a little too small for my size or at least I'm right on the upper edge for size for it. I'd rather not be given the choice, also not real sure, after this past winter, that my size will remain the same forever. These things take a fair amount of work, would hate to spend all the time to build this thing and then find out I don't fit. (no I'm not giving you the boat if that happens ) Boat design is slightly over 17' long and for my size should be about 18', obviously other dimmensions have to change too. Yeah I know it's in Nick's book but it's at home and I'm not.

So...good idea or not?
