Is there an important reason to plane the B&C off the shear strips other than possible damage to the edges of the cove?

I built my Guillemot leaving the B&C intact, treated it carefully, and when I joined the hull and deck they snapped together like a Kinder Egg, so I glued the joint just like the others, strapped the two together, let it dry, taped the seam, no problem!

Just wondered.
