Strip: Anyone try 1" wide strips?

Hey there,
I have some nice 4/4 cedar that I have not yet milled up into strips, and I was wondering how the 3/4" width was arrived at. I assume there are reasons for it as it seems to be a general concensus, but had anyone tried using wider strips? I figure I could get 7/8 out of what I have and cover more ground where possible. I am going with beveled edges so B&C issues don't apply.

Thanks all!

Marc
