Paddle: Greenland Paddle

I am going to be making a greenland paddle out of Port-orford cedar within a couple of weeks. Any thoughts on what the weight could end up at? It will be close to 8 feet long, maybe 7'6". Any thoughts on the length as well?

A friend suggested making a composite paddle, but the look won't match my SOF boat that I am currently working on. My concern is the paddle may be too heavy for long distance paddles.

Thanks
Joe
