Strip: Forms thickness ? *LINK*

Greetings,

well, I spent the last days mostly cutting strips, and while I'm awaiting for the bead & cove bits to arrive, I'll start cuting the forms.

Nick mentions in his book using 1/2" plywood, but Vaclav mentions in his book to use 5/8" or 3/4" (he thinks that 1/2 is too thin). Does anybody have any insight on this topic ?

I was thinking about using 1/2" for the forms and then 3/4 for the strongback, so that the bow and stern forms can slide in the ends (I got this idea from a post by John Caldeira). Will I have any problems with this choice (this will be my first strip boat, so I would be more prone to make mistakes) ?

Lastly, what material is better to use for the forms ? I'm planning to use a jigsaw to cut the forms and a ROS to do the final shaping, so I'm assuming my material choice will be limited by the tools I have.

Thanks for your input,

Hugo
