$2 a board foot???? I just bought a 2"x1/4"x8' of what appeared to be fir for $11.00. Dang I miss Lowe's. The good news is we are getting a Home Depot in St. Thomas in about 8 months. Maybe they will bring lumber! The piece I bought was because I ran out of the pine I was going to use as the coaming lip. I should add that this was a piece of moulding that I planed down, so I paid extra for the cheaply stamped design on the face that I planed off. It was the only wood I could find to match what I had! Still, that's pretty steep for moulding. The good news is that marine ply is pretty readily available. My next project will be either:
Skin on Frame Morris design W Greenland
MacGregor glued lapstrake sailing canoe (no fiberlgassing, just epoxy coat!)
Stitch-n-Glue Merganser... thinking of using teak plywood.
