I had a really bad mess with tape residue. What worked well for me was to take napkins or paper towels folded into lengths that fit over the residue, soak them in mineral spirits, place them on the residue, and cover them with plastic wrap to keep the mineral spirits from evaporating too quickly. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, then scrape off the residue with a plastic squeegee. It took multiple applications, but it did the job. I'll never let tape sit like that for days again.
