Im wanting a boat thats good for greenland skills, static braces easily and rolls easily. A low volume play boat, with good manuverability and reasonable tracking. I want it to handle rough water well. I like my modified Walrus, but there are some things Id change in it, if I could figure out how to make the changes in Autocad. Id put the decks lower, add foot and hip room, and carry the hull flatter further aft so it would surf better. But there are a couple of other choices out there for me...

If I were to modify my Walrus, Id end up with something pretty close to a Sea Spirit. Ive paddled a Sea Spirit, and liked it, but not had it out in the rough. Nor did I try to surf it.

Everything about the NHG I read on its pages I like - the volume out in the ends, the low overall volume, the keyhole cockpit but thats not a big deal. HTe narrower width. And the rounded chines, which I think would make it more friendly in a broach. But I have not paddled one...

So, is there anyone anywhere close to Oregon with a Night Heron? How do each of these boats handle rough water - I mean surf, up to 6'. This walrus broaches hard if it gets caught, I think due the hard chine. Sea Spirit the same way? ANd how about size 10 feet in a NHG? Has anyone had a chance to directly compare these two boats? By chance will there be a NH at R2K this year?
