For my Attwood V500 submersible pump I chose to install lightweight power tool batteries. I made a custom watertight battery pack with four Black & Decker Gold Versapack batteries. The Gold battery is more expensive but it is nickel-hydride versus nickel-cadmium with almost twice the charge life and they won't degrade over time like Ni-Cad does. I enclosed the batteries and connector system in a screw type plastic jar with rubber seal. I also sealed the connector wires coming from the jar with RTV sealant. This setup only weighs about 1 1/2 pounds and has functioned flawslessly now for 4 years. I only have to charge the batteries twice a year and never remove them during storage. This battery pack is mounted in the rear compartment of my Dagger Meridian with bungee cords.
