S&G: Another model, interesting design, multi-use *LINK* *Pic*

Here's a cool design by Jim Michalak. It's an old pirogue style design that looks perfectly suited for electric propulsion. I stitched this one together at half scale last weekend, and it looks to be very promising. This model could be used as a sponson or a tote behind ice cooler or both. Maybe even my crab catching assistant.

At full size this boat is designed to be 13 long with a 30" beam and have a displacement exceeding 240lbs. As usual, I can never leave well enough alone and have thought of my standard upscale of 1.3. This would give you a 17 ft. boat 39" wide with a displacement of at least 310 lbs. Open decked (like a canoe) but with floatation chambers fore/aft and possibly one of Chip's pop on/off decks would make this a great kayak to take my kids out in and even do some fishing/photography.

This model is by far the easiest thing I have ever stitched together, simple build. There's about 3 hours of work in this one so far, but I would expect the model will take me roughly 15 to 20 hours. I'm not sure about the full sized, probably 50 hours or so (there's not much deck). Most of the models I stitch together never get past this stage, but this one could be used on the water for various uses. As long as there's a quick release and possibly a secondary bungie, any reason why I can't drag this thing around with me? I may even build a second one and hook the two together. What do you think? A good kids SOT?

Any words from the wise?
