Hi Rob,

Good question. Since I don't live near salt water (damnit),less maintenance is required.

My kayaks, folders or non, are stored assembled. They are only packed in their
bags for air travel or while driving long distances. All other times they are
treated like any other kayak, which is exactly what they are.

They can, like any other kayak, be hosed off inside and out to clean them up.

I always use a sea sock to limit entry of water, dirt, spilled beer, etc.

Frame -

A couple times per year I take them apart for cleaning. The most important
part of the process is to clean and lubricate the inserts. I use either
Boeshield T-9 lubricant or Teflon lubricant. I wash down the tubes, and wax
them with Johnsons Paste Wax. The plastic cross sections are wiped off.

Skin -

The inside of the skin is wiped down with water and toweled dry. After
cleaning , the outside skin is coated with "Klepper Polish" once per year.
Great stuff ! Keeps it shiny and slick, and holds up all season.

In salt water, I'd take it apart more often for tube/insert cleaning/waxing.
I'd be sure to rinse out the inside of the tubes.

There really isn't a lot of maintenance required on a folder, especially one
that has no wood to refinish.

Tom
