I was participating in an instructor-training weekend this weekend and we attempted to practice a rescue on a kayak that has done a Cleopatra’s needle.
We tried this on a plastic Tempest 170 by Wilderness Systems. We flooded the rear compartment, the day hatch and the cockpit and the kayak refused to sink. The only flotation was 2 foam bulkheads. We sere able to demonstrate the second half of the rescue.

This makes me feel good knowing that besides the extra buoyancy of my strips, I have foam bulkheads. I will never have to worry about a Cleopatra’s needle in my yak. (Unless I happen to be transporting a load of rocks).
