Hello my name is Dave and I am a Kayakaholic...in unison "Hi Dave".

Well after getting Nick's book 9 months age, reading it almost 3 times, and reading the BB every day and searching the archives for Months, I've finally started my guillemot double. (Ice boat season is on hold until the snow on the lakes melt and refreezes here in Michigan).

1 day of prep (build router table, cut forms). 1 day to build strong back, rip boards and bead & cove. 1 day to to make u-shape strip keepers (stapleless method) and attach first two strips on each side.

I had anally thought out every possible issue that I might come across and researched it to death, but no luck, questions already.

First two questions ( of many more to come I'm sure).

I've seen cheater strips on the bow of the guillemot. But what about the double?
After the first two strips the upswepted bow really torques the strips. Has anyone ideas on cheater strips on the double bow to ease the strain? The stern is not too bad though.

Second, what are the pros and cons of a recessed cockpit for the coaming on the double? I've read that it is not necessary because of the relatively flatter deck on the double. Does it interfear at all with paddeling?

I'll look forward to hearing all of your thoughts and ideas. Great interaction on the bulletin boards, and as, usual great answers.

Thanks - Dave in Holly
