: Rehd: We have had previous discussions here on gluing veneer, primarily using
: contact cement. Santa gave me a book on applying and repairing veneer and
: in it is reference to using glue sheets.

: From the photos in the book these appear very similar to dry 8" X
: 10" mounting tissue used to glue photos to their backing. The process
: appears the same, lay the sheet on the mounting surface, tack down in a
: couple of spots using a hot iron, lay the veneer down onto the mounting
: tissue, iron into place, trim edges.

: Since I have a box of photo mounting tissues, and this seems to be a cleaner
: and easier process than contact cement, this sounds like a procedure that
: I want to use.

: Do you have any experience using this process? Any pitfalls or suggestions?

: Thanks, grant

No, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. And upon reading the response from 'srchr' I would tend to agree about the effects of contact cement bonding in the composit. It may leave you with a weakened area... but I can't answer that for sure, not being an expert in that area.

As to the photo attachment sheets, I would think they would bring about the same affect. ??? But depending on how large an area we/you are talking about, this may not be a serious factor.

I think that epoxy would be your best bet in that case. I would still stay away from the yellow glue as the veneer will draw a lot of moisture out of the glue and it tends to cause wrinkle problems in the veneer... Or did when we used it on furniture, ie; table tops done with book matched squares of walnut or maple. The epoxy will also give you a tad more working time and you won't need much pressure to keep it held down. ( plastic sheet, thin plywood or cardboard and some masking or duct tape ) Hope this helps!

Sorry is I led you astray earlier. Didn't have my thinking cap on. :(
