: Bill & Paul,
: Many thanks for your comments...really helpful! One question Bill....what is
: CA glue?

CyanoAcrylic, also know as "superglue" this is the stuff used by model builders for fine scale-models, and by beauty salons to fix broken fingernails. There are several formulations which set up faster or slower. Generally it sets up by absorbing moisture from the air.

Paul...I still have some nice planks of cedar that I haven't
: milled yet....will go with your suggestion for the starter strips. It is
: hard for me to believe that after a few years of reading this site, that I
: will be completing an SOF in a few months and starting a stripper...am
: psyched!
: Thanks again...
: Bob

If you scarf the planks, you can rip off a few nice pieces for the stringers for your SOF first and then reduce the remainder to strips. Or, do it backwards, and rip several strips from each board but leave a wide piece to later rip into your stringers.

I'll rip a 1x6 or 1x8 in half and scarf the top ends, giving me a very long 1z3 or 1x4 with the joint area matching color very nicely.
