Elliot,

I have found that dental floss works great for the sewing. I bought plain floss, but it ended up having some wax on it. I worried that the waterborne polyurethane would not work with the waxed floss, but it worked just fine. The varnish did not bead up near the seam at all. I found that there was an advantage to the floss. Unlike thread, the slack tended to not get into a knot while pulling the thread through. I generally worked with pieces of floss about 7-8 feet long so I did not have to pull so much through the skin. I did use opposing curved needles in the Morris method with 1/8 inch nylon rope as the piping.
