How far are those wood blocks inside the tuibes? Aren't they near some connecting point? You'll have to drill your tubes anyway, I guess. Either to insert the smaller connecting tubes, or to rivet the main tubes at stations' level in order to prevent them from sliding along, or to fit some L fittings to the tubes to fasten them to the stations if you don't go for the snap'n'click (or whatever I should call it!) system à la Tom Yost.
Anyway if it's a take-apart you're likely to cut the tubes to about yard-long tubes for packing.
Those are possible opportunities to find access to the infamous wood dowels and drill them to pieces.
