Skin-on-Frame: Dacron cloth and sealers?

I have a cold molded wooden double sculling shell that I am refinishing for our rowing club. It has a soft deck, presently the deck material is some sort of vinyl that is tacked and the seam covered with tape.....typical of the methods for soft deck materials on rowing shells.
I'd like to explore using dacron and sealer, like that used on skin-on-frame kayaks. Where can I get the heavy dacron (aircraft spruce only had very light cloth)? And what is the preferred type of sealer to use to fill/seal the dacron? Is there a good heat tape to use instead of tacks?
As James Brown would say......HEP MEH!
Thanks,
Garland
