Hello All,
The thread on the issue of stripping around the cockpit area of the NH was very timely for me. I had not considered the twist at the transition between the two decks, front and rear. I was, at the day of the posts, ready to glue in partial full-width strips - beginning at the bow. It would have been a sure disaster.
For information: I made an error long ago on my strip thickness. My half inch strips measured at about 0.240". the three quarter at about 0.260". I have no clue as to how this happened. Stupidity perhaps.
I could easily get a 1/2" strip to conform. The 3/4" were nearly unmanageable - to the point that I would not trust myself in the glueing operation (can of worms?)
I surface planed all of the over-thickness stock to near 0.240". I'd planned on cutting all down to about 1/2" and re-beading, but decided to retry one of the remilled strips. It conformed like a dream. No problem. It seems unlikely that a few hundreths of an inch really can make all the difference in the world. It appears that it does.
Hope this helps.
