Material: Wear strip

After a full summer of using my wood kayak I am ready to do some repairs for the next season. I have some wear on the keel line at the stern and bow ends. I was thinking of mixing some fine sand with epoxy to apply on these worn edges. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this or if there is something else that would help to minimize the wear in these areas. Thanks for the help.
