In Response To: Strip: 3/8" cove and bead cutter? (Reg Lake)

Living in not so developed countries has its good points too. The strips for my canoe (now varnishing) were milled on a prehistoric wood shaper, made in Germany around 1950. It uses blank knives which are shaped and sharpened to the diameter you wish. So for my 1/4 strips, I chose a rather big diameter (at least 3/8, if not bigger).

I donīt think I ever broke a cove, not even dropping the strip on the floor. You really donīt need much of a cove for the strip to realize where it ought to sit.

For my next boat (kayak) I will use 1/4 router bits, but on 3/16 strips.

Good luck
