Epoxy: Tape, glassing, epoxy

Ok, I did my little experiment with tape that had the edge seam cut off and tape that didn't. Although the tape with the edge cut off had very jagged edges, it feathered down very easily. The edge seam is tough to get sanded without sanding all over the tape. It's more work to cut it off but I think it's better than leaving it on.

If you put glass over the tape, however, is there any need to get the edges feathered? I supposed jagged edges will catch and pull the cloth and the edge seam would leave a small bump, so it's probably best to sand before glassing.

But here's the question. You can't sand the tape until it's cured or it will smear. But you have to glass quickly or you won't get a good bond. Seems like a small window to do everything just right. I'm using RAKA. So would it work to sand the tape 24 hours after epoxying and then glass within 48 hours? And then subsequent filler coats within 24 hours of each other?
