I noticed that one too. I thought the choice of 2024 was interesting - it is considered to be an 'not weldable' alloy. The copper precipitates out in the heat affected zone making it very brittle.

My brother-in-law once made a lot of bike steering posts out of 2024 (it had been miss labled at the supplier). The whole lot cracked through the welds while being heat treated.

I don't think I'd want to be paddling that one out through surf.
