Strip: Seat Height and Stability

Hi all ~
I seem to recall someone mentioning a seat height to beam width ratio for stability. Anyone remember? i.e. for every inch in seat height, you need to add x additional beam to preserve stability given the same hull design. Reason I'm asking...pondering modifying a strip design into a self-bailing SOT with sponson-type flare midships. A self-bailing SOT configuration means the seat has to be above the draft of the hull..right? If the draft is 3", the seat needs to be 3"+?

Thanks!
Jim
