In Response To: Recessed Coaming purpose (Patsy)

: Gorgeous, Shawn. Really gorgeous.

Thanks!

: What's the purpose/advantage of the recessed coaming? Is it to allow for
: better layback for rolling while still giving you plenty of leg room in
: the front?

Yes. It also makes side recover rolls easier. The recess forms knee hooks as well, which is another advantage.

:Is it worth all the extra work?

Absolutely, 110%! I found that I can't do some rolls in my raised-deck Guillemot that I can easily do in standard Guillemots. Deck height is a huge factor (and concurrent coaming height) in kayak roll-ability.

Take care,
Shawn
