Strip: Leidy Lid Hold Down?

A recent post about launching a Shooting star mentioned a Leidy Lid Hold Down. First, is this in reference to Ross Leidy? Second, I like Ross's craftmanship and would be interested is seeing what this hold down is all about, considering I'll be beginning construction on an Outer Island in the beginning of November, and intend to use flush wood hatches.
Ross, or anyone, enlighten me, please.
