Those sound like pretty good general numbers.

There are tons of other factors (so I'm told).

Boat width and shoulder width should be considered for loom length.

Paddle length may be different for horizontal vs. vertical stroke style.

It's interesting about blade width--anthropometrically, we should have one that fits from web of thumb to first knuckle. For me, this is about 3 3/4, but there are few historical references of paddles this wide--due to limited driftwood size, tradition, or small Inuit hands, I don't know.

I started paddling a GP borrowed from Mike Hanks (and also tried one of Don's)...their narrower paddles felt fine, so I never made a 3 3/4" wide one for myself.

2" seems thick, 1.125 seems shallow for the grip.

Fun measurements to ponder, for sure!

: i have an article by gordon brown called lollysticks and shavings that has a
: chart that says you, at 6'2", should be useing a paddle that is
: 7"8" long. 17" loom. 2"x1.125" grip. 4"
: blade. the length of the storm paddle should be 6'6". he says.
: hope that helps
