In Response To: retrofitting wood inlay (John Skinner)

: so I cut in some inlay
: where the hatch covers are going got it all sanded epoxy feathered back,
: cleaned up my area good, using the same epoxy and making sure I mixed the
: right parts, the newly recoated area has such a major color diffrence that
: im afraid ill have to resand & coat the top.

Use your sander as an artist's tool. Assume your sanding will leave a color change and plan your sanding so that it has decorative swirls, and it can create a decorative border. A series of swirls can easily simulate waves, for example, and provide a great, although subdued, background for a nautical theme.
