I think that there should be many studies done before classes are taught to under aged children. A few years ago, I helped to teach a kayak building class to a small group (6) of high school students. They thought that it would be a good way to get out of class and not learn something. But a couple were sadly mistaken. One beame very responsible, and lost his low selfesteem. Another came out of his shell, became interested in schoolwork, and seemed to have become addicted to boats shortly there after. I seemed to have been effected the same way and haven't been the same since. Building 2 more kayaks, working on another and also building a strip canoe. Before we let the youth of our country become thusly effected by such a deviant practice, boat building, we should take a long hard look at the long term outcome of subjecting students to such a life altering experience.
