I used it on one kayak and friends are using it for accents on theirs. I also used it for the gunnels of a canoe I recently restored. It is heavy and dense, epoxy goes right through it, it gives very ugly splinters, it bends suprisingly well, it is hard sanding but does not seem to cut down slower than the surrounding cedar, it is about the same cost here as black walnut, the color changes with time and exposure to sun and weqr a respirator when cutting and sanding it. I will use pieces in my next boat along with some other exotic woods. It probably will add a pound or two to the boat -- not that big a deal to me. My tripping canoe weighs about 90 pounds so anything that weighs in around the 50 pound range is a bonus.
good luck
