Since I've studied Duane's design a bit (modelled it in 3D a while back exploring potential kayaks to build) so perhaps I'm sort-of qualified to comment.

The mini benny is quite a bit more complex, although in subtle ways, than a pirogue. It has a more shapely sheer line with greater bow rise and kick up at the stern (although I suppose one could shape the sheer line of a pirogue to be similar). The Mini Benny's volume is pushed out towards the ends, and it is decidedly swede-form, where piroques are usually symmetrical and based on a single/simple arc giving a certain volume distribution similar to a canoe. Again, one could build a pirogue to have a shape similar to the mini benny in plan view. The mini benny is designed to have a lot of rocker at the bow, where pirogues usually have little rocker, but this yet again could be built into a pirogue. So really, the only concrete difference is the deck/coaming/bulkeads.

: Cool surfing and all, but... Who redid Hey Joe by Hendrix in Irish music?

: When you first posted the mini benny I noticed the similarity to a pirogue.
: What is the difference in the lines between the mini benny and a pirogue?
: (asside from a deck)
