: My crosspiece wont float away, as it is held in place by a bungee. Only
: problem was the first time it snapped out of the guides, the bungee pulled
: the crosspiece so far forward I just couldnt reach it again with my arms.

It's moot with SOF as there are no hatches, but in my wooden boats I have taken to putting screw in hatches in my forward bulkheads so I can reach in through the fore-hatch to adjust or repair recalcitrant footrest. I like small cockpits and have become fed up with sniggering spectators watching as I attempt to dislocate parts of my anatomy while adjusting stubborn footrests for odd sized friends.
