In Response To: S&G: 3mm hull and 6 oz glass? (Kudzu)

: I have about decided on 3mm ply for the hulls
: ....I am thinking 6oz glass on the outside.

Why add the glass? I've been paddling a 3 mm ply kayak for the last few years with glass on the seams only - loaded ocean paddling. The kayak just about finished is 5 metres, 3 mm ply and weighs 13 kg. I expect it to be about 16 kg with rudder, decklines, hatches etc. Again, glass only on the seams. Note also - butt joins on the panels with glass (no butt blocks, no scarfed joins). It will also be used for ocean, loaded, paddling with plenty of bouncing off rocks, at sea and on beaches.
