KNOB HATCH LATCH

The slot keeps the the cross bar from twisting out of position. Ideally, you want your cross bar under the deck to go lengthwise so it's pressing up against the crown of the deck. To put it on (or take it off) you loosen the bar a bit and then slide it forward - then backward putting the bar under the deck.
