Skin-on-Frame: masik help

I am in the process of making my Yost sea otter. My problem is with the coaming and the "masik". I am using an existing coaming that is smaller than the coaming intended for the design. My masik needs to be 24 inches from the backrest and the pattern calls for 30 inches from masik (the form that represents the masik) to backrest. I see that I have two options to fix this fitting issue.
1, Make a traditional masik and fit it along with the form that is called for in the pattern. 2, Make a new form 24 inches from the backrest. To do this I would make the yak as called for now and after all the gunwalls and chines are in, measure the distance and cut out a new pattern.
Any thoughts on how to fix my problem? I would much rather not make a new coaming as I hate making them anyway and I already have a spray skirt to fit my existing coaming.
thanks,
scott
