Seat's mounted to tubes that slide over the pedestal rails. The springy thingy keeps the seat from going backwards. Nothing keeps you from slamming forward when showering down the gas in reverse. Use caution.

The foot brace, by the way, is a telescoping aluminum tube that spans the hull crossways, you can see it in this picture. It's mounted to auminum angle sections riveted to the hull, and secured with small hitch pins. I imagine I'll add something very much like it to Merl before long.
