This board will work fine, John, for sail areas up to the 40 sq. ft. region. I wouldn't make it quite that thick for the stated width. Thicker foil sections, like this one, are good for preventing stall, but as the speed of the boat increases they create more drag which inhibits the performance.

For the type of sailing you say you are going to do with your boat, this will probably work acceptably. Put a two inch glass wrap on the leading edge and the tip of the board to ward off abrasion. sand it back into the contours of the board itself. Apply 8-10 coats of marine varnish and enjoy your time on the water.
