Curiosity prompts me to ask whether he spent a fortune on this, or got it at a garage sale for nearly nothig. I think we have two different vintages of these in storage. If it's gone up in value like old comic books and baseball cards, I might be tempted to put them on e-bay.

Yeah, I know that affliction. The local library was clearing out their periodicals department prior to a major building project. They were selling off the old bound volumes (6 months worth in each hard-bound cover) I think I'm missing one, but otherwise have from 1983 to 1989 for Mechanix Illustrated, which became Home Mechanix about 1985. On top of the stack I found an Oct 1970 Popular Mechanics and jsut dug into the classified advertisements. leading the list under the heading of "Boats and trailers" was the ad for Clark-Craft. Further down was one for Glen Designs (now known as Glen-L Designs). All totalled there were a dozen ads for plans, materials, and finished boats. Gee those old magazines were fun.
