The Merganser 17W is an excellent combo of roominess, volume and maneuverability but something happened that makes the pivot point feel a bit forward. I put weight in the stern and saw a friend in it with the seat too far back. The stern is set down 1 1/2" down in the water but the bow entry is right at the upturned portion. Even then it feels kind of stuck midpoint between paddler and the bow with the pivot point kind of shifting fore/aft as you lean. It's a bit like a Current Designs Scirocco. Moveing weight back doesn't seem like the best alteration compared to some kind of tweaking to make the pivot point under the paddler.
