: You run into 15 to 28 foot seas often? Where do you paddle?

3 meter seas ON a 4 meter swell?? No.... but I have been out in about 5 meter swells , long period very fast traveling and you can feel the wind as it pushes you up. Great fun and looks more intimidating than it is. Braver men and woman than me use the wind chop to accelerate up to a speed where they can then turn onto these ocean swells and surf them during the Molokai race in Hawaii . 3 meter seas are not uncommon and are much harder to handle. Usually caused by storms and so you dealing with the wind....I'm not a fan of that , but around headlands with a wind over tide situation it can get a bit interesting.
Basically I'm saying I'm talking about worst case a km or 2 off shore I want a boat that is more capable than me. many people talk about a kayak surfing well as 1 that surfs a boat wake out on the local lake. have a look and read our local club site. There are some great stories on this site and a few good pics although as you know when the seas come up the camera stays in the day hatch but there is a good shot of Stuart Trueman having some fun in the surf in the pic of the month 2005 page. I'm looking closer at the L Loon Baidarka although now the longer 1 . Its a little wide for me but I'm 6'2 and the kayak I have now is 19 feet long and just under 22 inches wide.
